Buffalo Competition 2008

The third annual ‘Buffalo Shoot’ took place on 23 March 2008 at the Barnwell Range. This competition recreates the challenge faced by hunters in the old wild-west within the constraints of our 100 yard facility at Barnwell. The targets used in this competition are of an A3 ‘Buffalo’ image with appropriate scoring rings to approximate a scale distance of 300yds.

.Buffalo

The competition is open to any traditional, open-sighted rifle with a calibre greater than .40” calibre i.e. Falling Block, Rolling Block and Under-lever rifles. Just 5 entrants stepped forward this year to compete for the club trophy.

The 30-round course-of-fire requires 10-shots sitting at 100yds, 10-shots kneeling at 75yds and 10-shots standing at 50yds. The larger 45-70 calibre rifles won out once again, taking the top 3 places and proving that the humble .44mag. can struggle out to 100yds (or is the shooters behind them?)

If you have a traditional iron sighted rifle of over .40” calibre, why not come on down and try your luck in 2009?
